Wild 75 Blitz – Florida Climate Week – Friends of Loxahatchee
Wild 75 Blitz with VoLo Foundation
October 11 @ 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, the Friends of Loxahatchee are hosting the first-ever bioblitz at the Refuge! Conservation leaders from all around South Florida will lead small groups on hikes throughout the Refuge. Each hike will focus on specific wildlife observations (birds, amphibians, butterflies, native plants, etc.). Hike leaders will use iNaturalist to document the biodiversity of this fragile, freshwater Everglades ecosystem. The event will run from 10 am to 3 pm, with 10–15 small group hikes setting off from designated start points throughout the day.
In addition, there will be an arts and crafts activity to engage kids and adults alike, a wildlife photography workshop, volunteer-led kayak trail “hikes,” and more. Conservationist and environmental steward CJ McCartney is leading the event on behalf of the Friends of Loxahatchee.
